It has been widely been rumored that Apple will launch a 12-inch MacBook Air later this year.

Taiwanese website DigiTimes now reports that Apple will start production of the new 12-inch MacBook Air in the third quarter of 2014.
The report claims that Quanta Computer, the Taiwanese based manufacturer that has long been Apple’s supplier for Mac computers, will assemble the new MacBook Air.
DigiTimes also claims that the 12-inch MacBook Air will feature some design changes.
The 12-inch MacBook Air features some design changes such as the battery and the internal layout, while its industrial design will be similar to its existing counterparts using an unibody aluminum chassis, the sources detailed. Some market watchers expect the machine to feature a Retina display.
Earlier in the year, a Weiphone forum user, who has a track record of posting legitimate information, had revealed that new 12-inch notebook will be thinner and lighter than the current MacBook Air, and may also include a trackpad without a mechanical button and possible fan-less design.
It is unlikely that Apple will replace the 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air with the 12-inch model, as it had recently updated them with faster Haswell processors. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who has a good track record when it comes to predicting Apple’s future product plans based on his supply chain sources, had predicted the possible launch of the ultra-thin 12-inch Retina MacBook Air in Q3 and Q4 2014.
